In response to the threats posed by climate change, Simon Fraser University resource-management policy experts call for a greater accounting of British Columbia's natural capital. As reported in the Globe and Mail, BC's rich 'biodiversity ark' is at risk unless the true value of BC's environmental services ' drinking water, flood control, carbon storage ' are incorporated into a integrated decision-making strategy.
If ecosystems loose their biodiversity they become less resilient and ultimately the natural capital would be eroded and human-made ' and perhaps costly ' solutions would have to be found. If action is not taken to account for the rich biodiversity, the policy experts also warn that thousands of animal and plant species would be threatened.
