Criteria
To register for any Big Wild Challenge category you will need to make sure:
- You and your family or team have registered on thebigwild.org.
- Your trip takes place beyond the parking lot in either a public wilderness park (national/provincial/territorial) or on public (crown) land or water in Canada.
- Your means of travel is self-propelled. (Not necessarily door-to-door, mind you, but we're not looking for moto-cross adventures or snowmobiling trips).
- You have declared a fundraising goal for The Big Wild.
- Your Challenge sets a goal or objective for trip members to achieve together. For example, first family trip, first ascent, most vertical, most days without a shower (just kidding).
We also encourage all Big Wild Challenge takers to:
- Post images, video, and blog entries on thebigwild.org to share your experience and inspire other people to take a challenge of their own (also you can prizes for your content).
- Adopt the 7 Leave No Trace principles to minimize the impact of your trip
- Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Leave What You Find
- Minimize Campfire Impacts
- Respect Wildlife
- Be Considerable of Other Visitors
