Serengeti of the North - Muskwa Kechika with Illustrious Explorers
Epic Challenge
June 20, 2009 - July 4, 2009

"There should be one place in the world where you have to find your own trail. All it takes is a little guts."

So says Wayne Sawchuk, illustrious explorer, former logger, wilderness guide and conservationist.  Leading the first of five expeditions that will last from June 20th to September 15th, this inaugural 12 day trip will consist of 5 people, 16 horses, and one dog.

While a horseback riding expedition isn't 'self propelled' travel, there will be areas where the grade of slope will be too steep to ride, and humans, horses and dog alike will become mountain climbers.  Stopping for a luxurious 3 days at the Prophet River hotsprings, we will be gifted with the splendour of untouched wilderness and wildlife.  Late spring at the hotsprings promises an awe-inspiring parade of wildlife -from caribou to wolves, elk to grizzlies, and wolverine and marmots - demonstrating the true biodiversity of this 'serengeti of the north.

Currently posted are tales from last year's final leg of the expedition as teasers for what's to come.  Wait for the tales of glacial river crossings, and treacherous climbs.  We'll keep you posted with breathtaking photos on our return!
