Protect the Wind River Watershed

Protect the Wind River Watershed
Epic Challenge
August 7, 2008 - August 24, 2008

The Wind River flows through the stunning Werneke Mountains in northeastern Yukon. It is one of six rivers in the Peel watershed ' an area over 75,000 square km and 14% of the Yukon.

Six of us - two couples from Lumby, BC and a couple of women from Whitehorse, Yukon - will spend 17 days reconnecting with themselves and each other while canoeing the Wind, hiking it's breathtaking mountains, and soaking up the magnificence and power of a fully functioning, intact, roadless ecosystem.

The Wind River is part of the Three Rivers wilderness in the Peel Watershed. It is an area threatened by uranium, coal and coalbed methane extraction, so we invite you to contribute to our challenge, which will help CPAWS-Yukon protect this incredible landscape while there is still the opportunity. The Three Rivers campaign is not a new one and much has been accomplished in putting it on the map and in Yukoners' and Canadians' minds. But there is much hard work ahead and money is always needed so every dollar helps

Don't forget that until October 1, 2008, Mountain Equipment Co-op will match all the funds raised by this Big Wild Challenge.
