Around Vancouver Island in less than 17 days,,, sea kayaking!
Epic Challenge
June 1, 2009 - June 1, 2009

This expedition will take place this June, in BC, where I will try to establish a new speed record for the circumnaviagtion of Vancouver Island by Sea Kayak.

The goal is to bring the attention of the public to the Ocean, the Coast line of Vancouver Island, My Backyard in a sense. I also want to promote Sea Kayaking and show another face of the sport.

Vancouver Island offers some serious challenges to the paddler, exposed coast line, huge head lands,  tide races, large swells, limited landing options in remote areas, and major weather systems...

The trip will start in Port Hardy where I will wait for a friendly weather report giving me enough time to get to Cape Scott, round it, paddle down to the Brooks Peninsula, round it, and then paddle south as fast as Possible.. until I reach Victoria. Then it will be about using the tidal currents and local winds to get back north to Quadra Island where the currents will pick up and bring me back to Port Hardy.

This trip will require good paddling skills, navigation and weather interpretation, and will promote safe paddling and Paddle Canada, our National Paddling Association promoting safe recreationnal paddlesprots training programs.

EXPEDITION: A journey undertaken for a specific purpose. In the end, the purpose of this trip is to challenge myself, get on the ocean and be one with it. Fun, fun, fun... something unique to remember for a life time, an accomplishement of some sort, quite simply I am itching to go!

Happy Paddling to you.
