Classic Challenge
March 1, 2010 - July 1, 2011
- We're a few Scouts here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and we are part of the 25th Group, Buffalo Plains, Northern Lights Council. We're challenging ourselves to sleep outside for an accumulated 1,001 nights between now and next summer to raise awareness of Canada's wild spaces.
- We haven't picked just one location to hike to, sleep at, etc. But hope to get out as much as possible between March 1, 2010 and July 1, 2011 with a bunch of mini adventures worthy of the wilderness and The Big Wild. The objective - to bag nights - to live in nature 24-7...even if it means a few nights in the backyard because our moms won't let us skip school to hit the backcountry.
- Why do this? We love being outside. We love Scouting. We love the wilderness, and we want it to be around when we're old guys. So, we thought we'd make some noise about Canada's wilderness and at the same time raise some money. After all, Scouting's founder, Lord Baden-Powell, once said that Scouts were the "guardians of the woods" ...and we think that's right on.
- We do have a website as we get started on this adventure. And it tells a little more... how we want to raise $50K for The Big Wild and $50K to get our patrol to the World Scouting Jamboree in Sweden, 2011. Scouting gives us so much opportunity - from leadership to outdoorsmanship - and this will help shape us as the next generaton.
- Please donate/sponsor us on this site - all these funds go to The Big Wild to continue the amazing work being done to preserve our wild spaces. And of course, feel free to host a 1,001 Bag Nights event of your own and donate the proceeds to this link here on The Big Wild. Get people talking!!!
