You may have noticed a few changes to TheBigWild.org. We’ve made it easier for you to zero in on the region of Canada where you live, reach out to your political leaders, and ask them to protect Canada’s wild open spaces.
Some of these spaces have had a victory or two in the last year, like the Nahanni River Watershed. Others campaigns, like the one to protect the Lower Athabasca from the oil sands, have reached a tipping point and need your input, ASAP. Take a look at our different campaigns and see if what’s at stake resonates within you. You can start with the campaign featured to the right of this post.
We’ve also produced a 92 second video on The Big Wild – what it is and why it’s good. The video is also posted just to the right of this post.
And for good measure, we thought we’d roll out our new, 2010 t-shirt, all in the same. And yes, there’s a Narwhal on the t-shirt. T-shirts for him come in different colours than t-shirts for her. You can order both from the MEC website or pick one up at any MEC store location across the country. $5 from every t-shirt sold goes to wilderness protection projects.
Okay. That’s it for now. Bring on spring!
What is The Big Wild?

In 2008 Mountain Equipment Co-op, in partnership with CPAWS, created
The Big Wild. MEC provides funding, research and staff for The Big
Wild, which makes it easy for Canadians to stand up for wilderness.
