In less than a decade, logging and mining could decimate the uncut areas of the Restigouche, one of Eastern Canada's wild river watersheds. By signing this petition, you're helping to protect some of Eastern Canada’s most pristine rivers and streams.
This summer,
the Government of New Brunswick will decide the future of 100 000 hectares of the Restigouche watershed. New Brunswick and Québec share this region and it’s critical to ask the leaders of both provinces to protect it.
The Big Wild is collecting signatures and sending them to New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham and Quebec Premier Jean Charest. We need them to see just how important it is to protect this wild space and eco-tourism in the country.
Protecting waterways and wildlife in the Restigouche is just the half of it. This is where it's at for eco-tourism because it strikes the perfect balance between river, forest, and wildlife. The wild Restigouche river watershed covers over 1 million hectares of northern New Brunswick and the southern Gaspé region of Québec. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more pristine wild space in Canada where Lynx, wild salmon, black bears and bald eagles all call home.
The wildlife in the Restigouche is in danger of losing out to logging in New Brunswick. Forestry plans show that old, wild forests in the Restigouche area could disappear within the next 10 years, unless the provincial government does something about it.
