Keep the Restigouche Wild

Keep the Restigouche Wild
In less than a decade, logging and mining could decimate the uncut areas of the Restigouche, one of Eastern Canada's wild river watersheds. By signing this petition, you're helping to protect some of Eastern Canada’s most pristine rivers and streams.

In 2011, the newly-elected Government of New Brunswick will decide the future of the wildest 100 000 hectares of the Restigouche watershed.

The Big Wild is collecting signatures and sending them to New Brunswick Premier David Alward and Quebec Premier Jean Charest. We need them to see just how important it is to protect this wild space and eco-tourism in the region.

Protecting waterways and wildlife in the Restigouche is just the half of it. This is where it's at for eco-tourism because it strikes the perfect balance between river, forest, and wildlife. The wild Restigouche river watershed covers over 1 million hectares of northern New Brunswick and the southern Gaspé region of Québec. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more pristine wild space in Canada where Lynx, wild Atlantic salmon, black bears and bald eagles all call home, that is also so accessible to millions of North Americans.

The wildlife in the Re
stigouche is in danger of losing out to logging in New Brunswick. Forestry plans show the wildest forests in the Restigouche area will disappear within the next 5 years, unless the provincial government does something about it. Because New Brunswick and Quebec share this wild region, we’re asking both provincial leaders to protect it. CPAWS is calling on the New Brunswick and Quebec governments to adopt a plan that will protect at least 10% of the Restigouche in permanent protected natural areas.

Please add your voice to the over 6,000 people who have already supported the campaign to Keep the Restigouche Wild.
Our goal is to send at least 2,000 more messages to government by May, from people who care about the future of the Restigouche wilderness!  Let’s get the attention of the new decision-makers!

Please help by taking a moment now to add your support, and sharing this message with your friends and networks.
