Sign your name on this list so the Restigouche can make that list. Intrigued? This summer, the Government of New Brunswick decides the future of 100 000 hectares of the Restigouche watershed. New Brunswick and Québec share this region and it’s critical to ask the leaders of both provinces to protect it. It's all dependent on whether the Premier of New Brunswick decides whether or not the Restigouche belongs on "the list." Raise your hand if you're thinking, "petition!"
In less than a decade, logging and mining could decimate the uncut areas of the Restigouche, one of Eastern Canada's wild river watersheds. By typing your name on this petition, you're helping to protect some of Eastern Canada’s most pristine rivers and streams.

Protecting waterways and wildlife in the Restigouche is just the half of it. This is where it's at for eco-tourism because it strikes the perfect balance between river, forest, and wildlife. The wild Restigouche river watershed covers over 1 million hectares of northern New Brunswick and the southern Gaspé region of Québec. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more pristine wild space in Canada where Lynx, wild salmon, black bears and bald eagles all call home. The wildlife in the Restigouche is in danger of losing out to logging in New Brunswick. Forestry plans show that old, wild forests in the Restigouche area could disappear within the next 10 years, unless the provincial government does something about it.
3000 Signatures by April, 2010
This April, New Brunswick's provincial government will decide what makes a list of areas that qualify for protection. Permanent protection starts with the Restigouche making this list and that's exactly what The Big Wild is aiming to do. If we can send 3000 signatures to New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham and Quebec Premier Jean Charest, they'll know just how important it is to protect this wild space and eco-tourism in the country.
Paddlers, hikers and eco-tourists from around the world come to visit the Restigouche year round to take in the sights and experience some of the best rivers and streams our country has to offer. It's no surprise MEC fully backs The Big Wild's effort to help protect the Restigouche. And nothing says protect the Restigouche like a handwritten letter to the Premier of New Brunswick. That's why MEC is giving you the opportunity to send a postcard. The next time you make a trip to Mountain Equipment Co-op, check out the postcards we have on display just waiting for you to sign and send. Make waves for the Restigouche -- sign your name and help protect wildlife, waterways and eco-tourism in Canada.
